The news comes from an exclusive report by The Verge’s Tom Warren.

The official statement from Microsoft reads:

“The natural step” here might sound a bit fishy, since the Xbox One X is the more expensive console. But it’s also the most powerful.

Microsoft remains committed to releasing first-party titles on both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X for the next few years, so it’s a bit confusing the more powerful of the two is being discontinued.

Microsoft did not say when Xbox One X and Xbox One SAD production will officially stop. But a Microsoft spokesperson suggested the best thing for consumers who still want an Xbox One X or Xbox One SAD should keep checking their local stores for availability.

That said, Warren also mentions there’ve been shortages of Xbox One consoles all around thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak, similar to what we saw earlier in the year with the Nintendo Switch.
