Minecraft is steadily on its way to a full 1.13 update, but 1.12.2 should tide us over – though the only announced addition is a change to the in-game splash screen, which will now say the full title of Minecraft: Java Edition.

Mojang announced yesterday that 1.12.2 should be out today (Thursday, September 14). But if you just can’t wait, you can hop on the pre-release version and give it a whirl. You can test out pre-release updates via the launcher if you have enabled experimental versions in its settings.

Who knows what’s in store in 1.12.2 just yet, but we’re about to find out on the long road to the next major update in 1.13.

This news was a bit overshadowed by the release of Minecraft on the New 3DS, but it’s worth noting if you’re still a dedicated PC player.
